My path to opening this business was not a traditional one. Years ago, I was working long shifts as a security guard when my life changed in a single moment. I received a phone call that my brother had passed away.
At the time, he was passionately pursuing an apprenticeship in plumbing. It was his dream to master the trade. In the wake of that loss, I felt a deep responsibility to honor his memory. I decided to trade my security uniform for work boots and enrolled in TAFE to complete the plumbing apprenticeship he never got the chance to finish.
I threw myself into the industry with the intention of doing right by his legacy. However, as I spent more time on job sites, my motivation shifted from grief to frustration. I started seeing the "ugly side" of the trade. I witnessed a distinct lack of transparency: sneaky tactics used to upsell vulnerable clients, deceitful excuses to explain away delays, and exorbitant bills for rushed, poor-quality workmanship.
As I worked in plumbing, I started listening to the stories my clients were telling me. They weren't just complaining about plumbers; they were sharing horror stories about pest controllers and high-pressure cleaners too.
I heard about contractors charging astronomical fees for a simple ten-minute spray, or "cowboys" damaging driveways with high-pressure equipment and then overcharging for the damage. It became clear that homeowners were being taken advantage of across the board because they simply wanted the job done and didn't know who to trust.
That was the turning point. I realized that just being an honest plumber wasn't enough. I decided to expand my skills and qualifications to include Pest Control and High Pressure Cleaning. I wanted to ensure that when a client needed these essential services, they didn't have to gamble on a random contractor. They could turn to someone they already trusted.
A Fairer Go I founded my business to set a new standard—a "fairer go" for the client.
